At Sweet Kin Farm, we prioritize the happiness & well being of our quail coveys. They are not raised in wire cages for mass production, rather they enjoy deluxe spacious indoor/outdoor accommodations (think 5 star hotel) where they can roam, explore and display normal behaviours.
We feel raising them this way results in a longer life and higher quality eggs. It also affords us the opportunity to interact with them and enjoy their personalities as we continue to learn more about each breed. Our strong genetic lines continue to be pursued for breeding programs.

To give you a sense of sizing… Standard chicken egg compared to a standard quail egg along side our prized button quail egg.
We typically see white and brown chicken eggs in he grocery store (mass produced) however there is actually a wide assortment of colours. Some individuals raised specifics types of chickens to obtain coloured eggs. Quails are similar in the sense that each species of quail will have distinctions of their eggs is size, colour or presence of patterned eggs. Patterned eggs are laid by coturnix quail. The pattern on an egg will change with each lay some having heavily speckles eggs and others having nearly plain eggs, this is a fun visual dynamic compared to the standard white egg.
Bob Whites though quail lay totally different eggs than the coturnix. Their eggs are solid white and have a slightly different size/shape to them tending to be more pointed/teardrop shape.
Button quail eggs are much smaller and most commonly seen in shades of beige and brown either solid or speckled. We however have been able to breed for egg colour diversity in our flock and collect eggs in a wide array of colours and patterns - similar to the idea of Easter Egger chickens. We have collected cream and white eggs, mauve tones and an assortment of greens along with the range of standard tones. When we pack our egg cartons we try to ensure their is a bit of variety to enjoy - after all we take our food in visually before we ever taste it!
